The Warwick Gliding Club started in the early 60’s and we have been a part of the southern downs region ever since. Come and visit, and try gliding yourself or give someone a special present!
At the Warwick Gliding Club, the spirit of opportunity is part of everyday life. Set against the stunning landscapes of the Southern Downs, the club provides an ideal environment to learn, progress, and thrive. With wide open skies, reliable soaring conditions, and a welcoming, down-to-earth community, it’s a place where new pilots are encouraged, supported, and inspired from their very first flight.
Flying a glider offers the same level of control and skill as any powered aircraft—just without the engine. Instead, gliders harness the natural energy of the atmosphere. After being launched by aerotow or winch to an initial height, pilots seek out rising air known as thermals. Formed by the sun warming the ground, these invisible columns of lift can carry a glider upward toward the clouds. Guided by instruments such as the variometer, pilots learn to centre and circle within these thermals, climbing higher and extending their flight.
Gliding is a sport for everyone, whether you’re a seasoned aviator or simply looking for a new and rewarding challenge. Most people begin with an air experience flight in a dual-seat training glider, sharing the cockpit with an instructor and discovering the unique combination of quiet, precision, and freedom that defines the sport. From there, structured training leads to solo flight and beyond.
As your skills develop, new opportunities open up—from local soaring flights to cross-country adventures, competition flying, and even instructing the next generation of pilots.
